The Kiddie Pool of Music

There have been multiple occasions where I have been called by the stereotype name "hipster" (mostly by my boyfriend) for my usage of the line "I liked this song before it came out on the radio, now I don't like it anymore." BUT it is true! Ho Hey by The Lumineers for example, have been on my itunes playlist since the beginning of the summer while not making radio play until the fall which is about the time I was starting to get sick of the tune for overplaying it myself. And lately I have found myself completely avoiding the radio at all costs. It seems to me that not only is the repetitiveness of the songs but  the lyrics of these new radio singles are only getting more and more shallower and may I say stupider?
My brother recently showed me a video by Nicki Minaj as joke. She is probably the worst "singer" of all time. I could go on about how much she is lowering the IQ of music listeners. And how in the world did she become a judge on a singing show? But let's not even get into that! Take her song "Stupid Hoe" The chorus is "You a stupid hoe, you a, you a stupid hoe, stupid stupid" After pondering her thought process when she wrote these lyrics, and why people actually enjoy this song I can only conceivable come up with 2 reasons why this song exists 1) Nicki Minaj never graduated high school, therefore never taking any English classes that teach proper english, writing, poetry, word usage etc. or 2) Americas taste in music is steadily decreasing into a black hole of pure stupidity. And the sad part of it is, is that people actually enjoy listening to this "music" < I put music in quotes because I find it hard to call it music.
I am not here to pick on a music genre that I do not like, in fact I like pretty much every music genre and hip hop music is not different. I like Macklemore, Chiddy Bang, Outkast and more, but the recent downgrade in thought provoking lyrics and repetitive beats in the music I have heard on the radio recently, makes me embarrassed for the music industry.
That being said I wanted to include some artists that may be under the radar, but that have been playing on my spotify account like crazy. First let's start with Twenty|One|Pilots. These guys are beyond exceptional, with thoughtful lyrics Twenty|One|Pilots are a genre of their own. Check out their single "Holding on to You"where even they seem to agree with me. "Lean with it, rock with it, when we gonna stop with it lyrics that mean nothing we were gifted with thought"I don't think I could have said it any better myself.
Next is Paper Tongues. Similar to T|O|P genre wise, these guys are hyper, fun, and upbeat. Check out "Trinity"
The Myriad is another band that I just can't stop listening too. Check out "You Waste Time Like a Grandfather Clock" After the unfortunate death of their very talented drummer, the guys haven't made any new music (at least not that I am aware of) But their album "With Arrows, With Poise" has got to be in my top 5 favorite albums of all time.
As a thinker, a music lover a writer I am always listening to new artists and finding new music that I love, perhaps I will start doing music reviews on here as well, but for now I will leave you with some artists you should definitely check out that have energetic beats, catchy tunes or good thought provoking lyrics none of this "You a stupid hoe" crap. Lets make the radio play good music :)
